Smoky Quartz with this depth of colour is also known as Morion or Cairngorm stone. It's not a pitch black, as the torchlit photo reveals.

Cairngorm Stone is in fact the National Gemstone of Scotland from which this specimen originates, although it can be found in many different countries.

This cluster also has a triangular hole in the middle which can be used as a gateway.

Smoky Quartz is a grounding base chakra stone, but the consciousness that Quartz generates raises this to another level.

A personal story to illustrate this is that when I was writing about Smoky Quartz I found I kept falling asleep. It was a very stressful time for me, I was also suffering from Migraines and truth was needed to sleep - so I interpret that as the smoky quartz raising the consciousness of my physical body to give me the rest I needed.

Lesson learned as well, I haven't has a migraine for years !
